Duong Thu Huong entrepreneur's family: Love is forever
When I came to Mrs Duong Thu Huong’s headquarters, the first person I met was not her, who is known in Vietnamese business people as a beautiful, well-known, confident woman. I met her oldest sister - Duong Thu Van who had just moved from the U.S to her hometown.
Seeing me, Ms Van warmly invited me to sit down. Lifting up her long prom dress to sweep the ground, she went to get water. At that time, she slowly said: "Are you looking for Thu Huong? She's changing clothes upstairs. Let me call Huong down ”.
There's no coldness in this big house
Instead of going downstairs to the living room, Huong invited me to go upstairs. She was busy rummaging through suitcases of the best prom gowns for her mother and father, preparing for a photo session. She spreads the bed 5–6 sets she likes, and tells her mother: "Mom, let choose which set you like the best". Then she said: "now it's my turn to get my outfit. I have just moved to another house, so I haven't arranged all things well yet. Will you sit down with my mom and wait a minute?" She didn't forget to turn on the aircon when leaving the room.
Her mother, Mrs Nguyen Thuy Huong, is 82 years old this year. During an hour, she told me about her romantic love with her husband in the years of war, about the difficult time she grew her children, and about recently when her big family collected together. Her eyes glistened with pride: “The family of Van, Tuan, and Hung all live in America and are successful. When I and my husband were in the U.S, the youngest daughter flew to the US every year to have family gatherings at least twice a year, each time for 1-2 weeks. Our sons and daughters went skiing, bathing. We cooked, chated, or went shopping. Sometimes we'll go to the casino and play cards for fun. This year, we were in Vietnam with Thu Huong, her brothers, sisters and 7 grandchildren returned to Vietnam. They visited the grave, travelled, organized parties, went to charity ... Live away from everybody, but I never felt a lack of affection. They're all meticulous, caring, loving. I am proud of them ”.
The photoshoot began. There is a tall man over 50s, a very laughable, soft-spoken man who is always attentive and responsive to everyone's requests. Seeing the photographer kept on his knees, he brought the chair to him and said: "You sit down to help relieve fatigue". Seeing the stylist standing a long time, he repeatedly invited everyone to eat at the fruit table, drink water, and rest. Seeing his mother wearing mismatched shoes, he chose other shoes... He is Duong Anh Hung - one of the two brothers whose businesswoman Duong Thu Huong boasted: "He is inherited all of father's elegant, thoughtful and loving genes”
Honestly, when I stepped into that superficial house in district 2, I had this kind of shyness: rich people are usually snobbish. But when I entered, seeing the members from old to young took care of each other and took care of guests, that fear completely disappeared. It's a warm and sweet family feeling.
Inherited from parents
After taking the series of pictures, Mrs Huong sat down and urged me to eat sticky rice with chicken and fruit. Mr Hung cut the cake, brought it to my hand, smiling: “ You don't like the sweet things so I take a little. Try it, it's delicious, our family's love cake".
Huong boasted: “We are very close. Although I live in Vietnam, Van is in the US, everyone is busy, but the two sisters talk to each other every day. With Tuan and Hung, I and they have to call and talk to each other twice a week. If they don't call our parents and me, I will shout at them (laughs) ”.
In Mrs Huong’s house, each person has a personality, but all are the same in meticulousness, thoughtfulness, or attention to and concern for people around. It is not by accident but thanks to the parents. She said: "In the past, parents were the people who protected the family, from siblings to relatives. I am used to my mother sending money back home to help her brothers, sisters, relatives. I have seen my mother lying at the foot of the bed to take care of my grandmother on sick days or going to the kitchen to cook many delicious dishes to serve her husband's friends and still be happy. When I was a child, Ha Noi was very cold in the winter. My father scared me cold, he wrapped diapers around me to have a warm diaper instead. Wherever I go, he wipes me with a towel over his shoulder. Every weekend he cut my nails. Bombs fell, everybody told him to go into the basement, he still rode his bicycle on the dike to see how his wife and children were. Every weekend, he brought fish sauce and salt to his wife. He read books to his children. All these love lives in our hearts, forming our common character. Therefore, we also love each other very much. When Van had a severe appendix, Tuan and Hung resigned, taking turns looking after her day and night. More than 50 years old, having an older child is still the same.
With Ms Van, Ms Huong or Mr Tuan, Mr Hung, they learn to love nothing by loving, by paying attention and doing what they think should be done. It is also an example, a better way to teach children than all methods of education in any civilization.
